[102]
Allegedly, William (Bill) rode a raft down the Mississippi River to New
Orleans, then walked up to Texas. He liked what he saw and returned to
Tennessee and brought his family back in ox drawn covered wagons. On the way
to Texas, someone gave him an orange, and he had never seen one. So, he threw
it away. William received 640 acres of land in Collin County, as he was
an early settler.
[103]
William (Bill) later bought 205 acres of land adjoining his land and traded
200 acres for a grey horse, land valued at $1.00 per acre. William and his
first wife are buried in the Wilson Cemetary, but second wife, Granny, is
buried in Van Alstyne.
