James received 640 acres of land in Collin County, Texas as an early
settler. Also, Jame's was a favorite of his Mother Jane's sisters, for they
named him in their wills. In Tennessee, Sarah Carothers gave him a cow and
one hundred dollars. 1850 Census shows James as having 2 slaves, 1 black and
1 mulatto.
